If you’ve ever driven the Sea to Sky highway, then you understand why it’s often called one of the most scenic drives in the world.

It starts when you get on the highway in West Vancouver, looking out on to the sparkling blue waters of Howe Sound, dotted with majestic islands covered in thick trees.

As you wind around the corners—and it’s a nice, smooth ride, thanks to major work done for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games—seemingly endless expanses of mountains emerge, including the granite monolith known as the Stawamus Chief. Rivers, lakes, forests, and the occasional glimpse at wildlife are all part of the view as you make your way to Whistler. This is one ride where you definitely want to be the passenger so that you can take in all the views.

Now imagine doing that ride on a perfect spring day in a vintage British Run car, surrounded by others in equally dashing vehicles. For many classic car lovers, this is paradise.

That is exactly what will happen this Sunday, May 17, when the All-British Vancouver-Whistler Runreturns to town once more.

A Car Enthusiasts Dream

The event is extremely popular and often sells out. That’s no surprise: who wouldn’t want to spend the May long weekend enjoying the scenery of the Sea to Sky and getting to know other British car enthusiasts?

Those registered are scheduled to meet at the Park Royal parking lot in West Vancouver at 8:00 AM. Cars will depart over the following two and a half hours. If you haven’t registered yet, you’re out of luck: registration closed back in April. You’ll have to watch out for next year’s event.

Of course, you don’t need to be a driver to take part of the fun. Just head to the Whistler Olympic Plaza on Sunday afternoon, where 150 of the stunning machines will be parked for the public to view. Meander from car to car and just try to pick a favourite among them all. Many owners will be nearby, happy to chat to tell you more about their cars. You can also grab a coffee from one of the nearby coffee shops, or nab a spot on the Whistler Brewhouse’s patio, and watch all the of action unfold before you.

Despite the fact that they’re too young to drive, most kids love checking out these classic cars in person. If your child loves anything with wheels and a motor, he or she will definitely get a kick out of this event. It’s the perfect opportunity to instill a love of British cars on the next generation—and the playground is nearby to check out when you’re done.

If you’re heading from Whistler to Vancouver the evening of the 17th or somethime on the 18th, chances are pretty good that you’ll get to see some of these beauties in action. We don’t blame you if you stare a little—for once, the scenery of the Sea to Sky Highway will have something to compete with!
