What’s on in Whistler: September Edition

Yoga stretching in Whistler

Fall in Whistler means shoulder season: that quiet time where everyone recovers from a busy summer and prepares for a sure-to-be-epic winter season. But just because it’s shoulder season, it doesn’t mean that there isn’t a ton going on around town.

September is, arguably, one of Whistler’s most underrated months. When the weather is just right—and so far this year, it has been—it can feel like a bonus summer month, minus the sweltering heat and crowds.

Here are some of the events that we are looking forward to this coming month:

The Whistler Village Beer Festival (September 11 to 14, main event on September 13)

We’ve already devoted a blog post to the wonderful Whistler Village Beer Festival, but we can’t discuss September in Whistler without mentioning it once more. Good news: the forecast is calling for plenty of sun and temperatures in the mid 20’s. That’s the optimal combination for a perfect beer festival experience.

The TELUS Golf Classic (September 12)

September is a fine time to check out any of Whistler’s three golf courses: the weather is great, but the crowds are much thinner than the busier summer months. Start by taking part in the TELUS Golf Classic at Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club. This traditional Texas Scramble tournament is a fundraiser for the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation, and culminates in a night of wining and dining at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler.

The h’OMgrown Fest (September 12- 14)

Head up the highway to visit our neighbours in Pemberton as they celebrate the h’OMgrown Fest, a celebration of blessings. Yoga, nutrition workshops, music, tasty food, meditation and educational talks are all on the agenda at this grassroots event. Say it with us now: ommmmmmm!

The Terry Fox Run (September 14)

Join communities across the nation in the annual Terry Fox Run to celebrate a Canadian hero. This untimed event doesn’t require a registration fee or a minimum fundraising donation, though you are welcome to raise funds for the Terry Fox Foundation. Runners, walkers, and cyclists can choose between the 4.2 km course and the 7.2 km course—the perfect way to take in the beauty of Whistler in the autumn. It all kicks off at 10 AM at the Four Seasons.

The Sea to Sky All British Rally (September 20)

Attention classic car aficionados—or people who just like to look at pretty, shiny things. Check out the display of gorgeous cars in the Olympic Plaza, which is where all the vehicles are parked after they make their way up the Sea to Sky highway. This is a great event for people of all ages, and might spark the inspiration you need to do a little daydreaming…

The Whistler Spirit Run (September 28)

After logging in the miles on Whistler’s single track trails and the Valley Trail all summer long, you are probably in prime condition for the annual Whistler Spirit Run—and if not, no worries, distances range from a quick 1 km (with the Family Fun Run) to a more challenging, but still do-able, 8 km.  These cross-country events take place in the Whistler Olympic Park, and all ages and levels are welcome. The Whistler Spirit Run is the perfect way to cap off the running season.

Don’t forget, many of Whistler’s most popular summer activities—the farmer’s market, WORCA mountain biking rides, stand up paddleboard yoga—are still very much on during September. By now, you should be convinced: get up here and come discover why September in Whistler is so much fun!
