Whistler Realtor Q&A – Lindsay Graham

Lindsay Graham

Why did you move to Whistler?

I’m originally from Claremont, Ontario and when I was a young teenager a friend of the family moved to Whistler. He would come back with the most amazing stories about the mountains and the culture in Whistler, and it just became this iconic dream of mine. So from that time I started telling my family as soon as I could I was going to move to Whistler.

What did you do when you first arrived?

I finished high school and moved to Whistler at 17. I had friends who connected me with a job at Club Intrawest in the sales department. I worked two days a week and went snowboarding every day.

When did you get into Real Estate?

Working at Club Intrawest I met some of my first mentors and they advised me to pursue a career in Real Estate. So when I turned 19 I enrolled in the course and started my real estate career shortly after, but in the property management sector. I switched to full time real estate sales in 2004 and haven’t looked back!

What advice would you give to someone looking to buy a property here?

Keep and open mind, explore all your options and just have fun with it. You may start off with an idea in your mind of what it should look and feel like, but because it’s so diverse here and there’s such an array of product, it’s really important to look at all the varieties before honing in on what you want.

What advice would you give to sellers?

Work with your Realtor to ensure you understand the nuances of the market, as it can move so quickly.

Come up with a pricing strategy designed to meet your goals, whether that be for downsizing, upsizing or adding to your Real Estate portfolio.

In one sentence, why should people come to live here?

Because, from every standpoint, it truly is one of the best places in the world to live!

What is your most memorable sale?

It would have to be a house I recently sold in Spruce Grove to a young family from Vancouver. They were really open minded and incredibly fun to work with. They took the process seriously, but had such a good time with it.

What is your favourite season and why?

Summer. It used to be winter, but as they say, ‘you move here for the winter, but stay for the summer’

If you weren’t a Realtor what would you be?

I’m really into construction. I guess I’d be an engineer of some type, but more on the ground. I’d really want to be creating and building something. I always joke that I would be a crane operator!

What makes you smile the most?

Being round friends and family and having fun with other positive people.

How do you decompress?

I live in a community on Alpha Lake with its own private beach, so when I finish my work day I’ll head down to the beach and go out in the canoe or paddleboard, or just jump in for a swim. It’s my way of reconnecting with nature and reminding myself why I live here.

What is the most recent hobby you picked up?

Golf.

What accomplishment do you consider to be the most significant in your career/life?

The life-changer really was moving to Whistler as a late teenager from Ontario, without a direction and without a path. It was only meant to be for six months to a year, but I fell so in love with Whistler that it occurred to me I need to figure out how to make this work and create a life here.

Going from being a snowboard bum at age 17 to running a start up property management company at age 19 with a real estate license, that was a huge accomplishment.
