Whistler Spotlight: GO Fest

Published on

Whistler is lucky enough to host a huge number of festivals and events throughout the year from Crankworx in summer, to the World Ski and Snowboard Festival in winter.

Taking place in May, GO Fest is one of Whistler’s newest festivals and as the snow melts it aims to celebrate the outdoors. It is the perfect way to kick off the warmer months, as visitors come to the area to spend the long weekend and enjoy the last days of spring skiing, and some of the first days of the bike park.

In this Whistler Spotlight instalment we take a look at what makes GO Fest one of the year’s most fun events!

About GO Fest

Beginning in 2014, GO Fest was started to bring a wide range of people up to Whistler for the Victoria Day long weekend in order to celebrate the outdoors. The four day event sees a mix of sporting events, arts and culture, music shows, and sports clinics.

This period of time used to be known as Shoulder Season – with no events following WSSF the Village was very quiet. But now with the introduction of GO Fest, visitors will be treated to a plethora of events and activities!

Events

There is so much happening over the four days that it is too much to fit in one blog post! To start with, there is a huge range of sporting events across tons of disciplines for you to take part in, or simply watch.

It is also one of the few times when visitors are able to ski on the mountain and also ride in the bike park! Many people challenge themselves to take part in as many activities as possible in one day.

GO Fest is also a time to celebrate arts and culture in Whistler, with a number of events taking place. There are films and exhibits to enjoy, as well as classes to take, such as sculpting and painting.

Throughout the festival there are clinics and workshops taking place – a number of them free of charge! They cover everything from sporting pursuits to health and nutrition.

As the days draw to a close everyone usually heads over to the Olympic Plaza to enjoy the free music shows on offer with a number of world-famous acts headlining!
