Whistler Realtor Q&A: Dan Scarratt

October 26, 2017
Dan Scarratt

Q: Why did you move to Whistler?

A: I am originally from Bragg Creek, Alberta. I came out to visit a friend for New Year’s 1993 and could not believe the amount of snow and these incredible mountains. I made a couple more visits and was living here by August of that year.

Q: What did you do when you first arrived?

A: I worked as a surveyor for a forestry company. Within a couple of years, I got back into mountain operations working for the snowmaking and grooming departments for Whistler/Blackcomb so I could take full advantage of the ski days.

Q: How did you get into real estate?

A: I became a realtor in 2012. I bought my first home here in 2001 and had a keen interest in the market from there. This is always something I wanted to do and thought it would allow some flexibility to spend time with my family.

Q: What do you enjoy about the lifestyle here?

A: There is so much to enjoy here. The climate allows for year round outdoor activities, the food is incredible, and there is a really good mix of people that have come to call this place home. It is truly one of a kind.

Q: What advice would you give to someone looking to buy in Whistler?

A: Keep an open mind. There are so many great spaces here. You are bound to find more than you initially expected.

Q: What’s your favourite thing about working with your clients?

A: You get to meet people from all over the world and show them what makes this place so special.

Q: What do you think you would be if you weren’t a Realtor?

A: Honestly, I love the work I am doing today. If I had to make a change, I might like to be doing something where I could help/work with animals.

Q: How do you decompress, or how would you spend your ideal day?

A: Getting out with the kids for a bike ride or day on the hill.

Q: What was it like raising a family in Whistler?

A: We are incredibly lucky to have so many options for the kids here: ski school, bike camps, nature camps, dance… How many Kindergarten classes can say “Monday is for ski school”!?

Q: What accomplishment do you consider to be the most significant in your career life?

A: Being able to raise a family in such a great place.

Q: Finally, in one sentence, why should people come to live here?

A: Everything you need is here, and it keeps getting better.
