Rainy Day Home Projects

In Canada we’re used to four season weather – if you’re lucky enough, sometimes you can even experience them all in the same day! Weather is a large part of how we make plans for the weekend, decide to dress and how we’re going to spend the day. If you found yourself suddenly changing your plans to stay inside, here are some tips to help you have a productive day inside the house!

Declutter Your Space

Yes, that even means the dreadful junk drawer! Go through your closet, the basement, your bookshelf. It’s time to discard anything you no longer need or use. Start a donation bin so you they can be repurposed or drop it off at your local reuse it centre. Having less clutter in your house will make things feel lighter… and the best part, it makes room for newer items you’ve had your eye on in the local shops!

Spring Cleaning Doesn’t Have to Happen in Spring

Sure, you can clean your house like it’s just another week, or you can deep dive into the nooks and crannies you usually forget about! Clean that ceiling fan, maybe you have some squeaky hinges or need to tighten up the hardware on your kitchen cupboards. Wash the couch cushions and the curtains. Remove the cobwebs that are in the corners of your ceiling, use a toothbrush to clean the grout. Get creative, and in our humble opinion, start one room at a time – there’s nothing worse than starting the whole house, only to get tired after one room!

Rearrange Furniture

Try giving your home a new look and feel by moving some pieces around or changing the layout of a few rooms! Reposition the couch or change the lamps out. Hang photos on the walls or swap them out from other rooms so it brings new energy into the space. Change out couch cushions, update some of the photos in the frames or make new centrepieces for your coffee table and dining room. Staging a home doesn’t always have to be for the purpose of selling, it helps to increase the energy and bring new life to the same spaces you live in day in and day out.

Finish Your DIY Projects

We’ve all got them. Something we’ve started months ago and have yet to finish. Perhaps you’ve even been collecting items for years in hopes that you’ll turn it into something purposeful in your home. There is no time like the present.
