For most people the move to Whistler is a lifestyle choice. Whether you come from the Lower Mainland, or further afield, the reason many make the move is to enjoy a certain way of life.
Whistler offers a huge array of activities and outdoor adventures all year round, and with the draw of one of the world’s best ski resorts, it’s a dream for many to live here. But, how does this dream lifestyle fit into the reality of day-to-day living? If you live and work in Whistler, how much time is there to enjoy the lifestyle?
Whether you’re on vacation, or a regular weekend visitor, Whistler can seem like the most amazing place to live. As Whistler locals, we are here to tell you that it actually, probably is! The key is finding the right balance.
Depending on the industry you work in, many employers are incredibly understanding and offer flexible working schedules – they live here for the same reason as you after all! In fact, you may be familiar with many businesses offering a “20cm” rule, meaning that when it snows 20cm overnight, employees are allowed to come in late after skiing!
For those who work on a rigid 9-5 schedule, enjoying everything Whistler has to offer is still surprisingly easy. There is so much to do, and it is all literally on your doorstep. There is no waiting, no planning, everyone just does.
The community is very laidback and you will discover that the same reason you wanted to live in Whistler, is the same reason everyone else did.
One of the biggest benefits of living in Whistler is discovering what’s below the surface. If you usually visit on weekends you will gain a certain familiarity and know you’re way around the area and the mountain. But, when you live here you uncover a whole new world!
If you’ve ever skied with a local, you know they know the best spots on the mountain (and those are just the ones they told you about!). If you decide to make the move you will find that there is so much more under the surface, and not just secret powder stashes.
From hiking and biking trails, to hidden lakes, Whistler is full of wonders that can even surprise long-time locals!
