Day Trips near Whistler

Vancouver

As much as Whistler has to offer, it’s always nice to get out of the village once in a while. And, with summer just around the corner we thought we’d let you in on some of our favourite day trips near Whistler.

Pemberton for lunch

Just north of Whistler is the small town of Pemberton. Here you will find a valley full of rich farmland and friendly locals situated below an impressive mountain backdrop.

A trip to Pemberton is always fun, whether you’re going to bike, hike, camp or just enjoy the town. Whatever you do, don’t forget to stop off for lunch. Pemberton has some great lunch spots which serve fantastic local and organic foods.

Check out Mile One Eating House and The Pony for amazing homemade burgers, or if you want to sample some impressive local organic foods, head to Solfeggio.

Hiking in Squamish

On the other side of Whistler just a 40 minute drive south is Squamish, a hikers paradise. Well to be honest, it’s a hikers, bikers and climbers paradise. But what more would you expect from the outdoor recreation capital of Canada!

During the winter months when Whistler is covered in snow you can still head to Squamish to enjoy a wider range of outdoor activities in the milder weather. Hike up The Stawamus Chief for some incredible views of the valley, or if you don’t feel like hiking check out the new Sea to Sky Gondola.

The big city

Less than 2 hours south of Whistler is Vancouver, one of the most popular city destinations in North America.

Although still a city, Vancouver doesn’t feel vast and overwhelming, instead it is warm and welcoming with lots of small communities and parks. Get out of Whistler for shopping, eating and much more.

Why not take in a show, gig or sporting event. Vancouver is home to one of the most famous and successful hockey teams in the world – The Canucks. And now also has a growing soccer franchise in the form of The Whitecaps.

Whatever you choose to do in the city you will not be disappointed.

The great outdoors

Whistler’s location gives incredible access to nature and the outdoors. Even just a few minutes outside of town you can see some beautiful things, whether it’s waterfalls, mountains or lakes, there is natural beauty wherever you turn.

Why not take a camping trip to one of the many locations on your doorstep to really take in nature. For more information and tips on camping you can check out some of our favourite Pemberton camping spots.

There are so many wonderful places a short trip from Whistler we have no doubt missed some of your favourites, so let us know in the comments!
