There are plenty of one-off events – concerts, festivals, competitions, etc.—but there are also several ongoing events taking place throughout the peak of the winter season. Whether you’re coming up for Christmas, spring break, or sometime in between, you’ll be able to check out these incredible shows firsthand.
And if you’re lucky enough to live here the entire season? Well, then you can check out these events again and again and again!
The Fire and Ice Show
Arguably Whistler’s best-known ongoing seasonal event, the Fire and Ice Show has become a Sunday night staple for Whistlerites. Head to the base of Whistler Mountain in the Village Sunday evenings at 6:30 PM to witness some crazily skilled skiers and snowboarders launch themselves off a massive jump – and through a real ring of fire. Fire dancers, aerials, and a huge fireworks display – it’s all part of the fun. The best part? It’s free to watch!
Whistler Arts Council: Skiing Under the Influence
Have a little time to kill while wandering around Whistler? Duck into Millennium Place (across from the Whistler Brew Pub) to visit the Whistler Art Council’s latest exhibit, Skiing Under the Influence. The show features an incredible array of art by some extremely talented local visual artists and photographers. It’s free to check out, and the show is on between December 15 and February 7.
King of the Rail
Hosted by Whistler’s own Showcase Snowboard shop, King of the Rail is a series of rail jam contests. For the uninitiated, this means that both skiers and snowboarders will be showing off their park skills on a series of rails. Still confused by the lingo? Check it out and you’ll see what we mean.
Events take place on December 20, December 27, January 3, and February 21 at 7 PM right at the base of Whistler Mountain in the Village. If you know any kings or queens of the rail yourself, encourage them to enter – it’s open to kids, adults, skiers and snowboarders for a $15 entry fee and there are some great prizes up for grabs – including cash!
After a great day on the mountain, swing by the Whistler Olympic Plaza with the whole family. Just head down the Village Stroll until you see the big Olympic rings – you can’t miss it. On Mondays and Wednesdays from December through to March, you’ll find a lively kids-friendly apres zone here from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. The agenda changes every week – you might find storytelling one week and a snowman building competition the next.
Made In Whistler Winter Market
If you’re looking for that perfect Whistler keepsake for your home, head over to the Westin hotel on Saturdays between 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM. From December 20 to April 4, you’ll find the Made In Whistler winter market, a bazaar featuring hand crafted goods by local artisans. Stock up on soaps, baked goods, fashion, fine art, jewelry, food, and so much more – all with a distinct Whistler twist.
