Guide to The Turkey Sale

October 2, 2014
Turkey Sale

Whistler Blackcomb will once again host its infamous Turkey Sale from October 6-9. The sale (which takes place at Salomon, CAN-Ski and Showcase) sees discounts of up to 70% on ski and snowboarding equipment and outdoor wear. There is also the chance to sell your own used equipment at the Whistler Mountain SWAP.

It has proved incredibly popular in previous years, and the discounts have even been extended to accommodation for those wishing to stay the weekend and make the most of the savings.

To help you get through the sales and avoid disappointment we have put together some tips:

Be prepared

To avoid being disappointed you need to be prepared! That means lots of planning and knowing what you want. Treat this like a military operation.

Know what you want – Going to the sale with a general idea is not good enough. There are so many good deals that you can easily end up buying tons of things you don’t need and forgetting what you came for.

Recon – To avoid being overwhelmed by the deals on the day, do your research. Go to the shops before the sale and talk to the staff, they will be able to advise you on gear before they are too busy on the actual day. This is the perfect chance to get measured and sized up.

Get there early

It may seem obvious but the best gear goes early. Locals and pass holders get early access on Friday so if that applies to you then get yourself down!

If this doesn’t apply to you then you should seriously consider queuing up on Saturday, especially if you’re after skis or a board. These are the fastest things to go, after all you’ll be competing with people who live to ride so you can be sure they will be there early.

Don’t give up

Don’t worry if you miss out on the first day – new gear is put out every day. Be determined and show up early for the next day. There is plenty of equipment for everyone so no need to make a purchase you may regret, just keep your eye out and you’ll find the best deal for you.

The sale is not just for ski and snowboard equipment – there are actual turkeys on sale! Priced at $15 each, this is your chance to get a delicious frozen turkey, with all proceeds going to the Whistler Food Bank.

Hopefully these tips will help you get the best deals on the equipment you need, then all that’s left to do is wait.

So, what are you waiting for? Get doing your recon!
