The Best of Whistler Pride and Ski Festival

Pride in Whistler

Whistler is lucky enough to host quite a few fantastic festivals – so when we say that the Whistler Pride and Ski Festival is one of the most fun weeks of the year, you know we’re talking about something big.

The 24th Whistler Pride and Ski Festival will be taking place from January 23 to 31. Over the course of the week, participants will be able to enjoy outdoor activities, cultural events, and a whole lot of partying.

So what makes Whistler Pride and Ski Festival so special? We’re glad you asked.

Pride and Ski – How Can You NOT Have Fun?

If you’ve ever been to a Pride festival anywhere in the world, you know that it’s a good time. Well, the Whistler festival offers everything you’ve come to expect from your typical Pride festival – with the added bonus element of being a fantastic mountain resort town.

This means that, in addition to the usual fun and fanfare of Pride festivals, attendees can enjoy world class skiing. Taking place in the heart of winter, the festival usually coincides with some phenomenal ski conditions.

Throughout the festival, Whistler Pride Ski Guides host participants on Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains, giving them a VIP look at some of the best spots on the mountains. Groups are split up based on ability level, and it’s a great way to meet new skiing and snowboarding friends.

Après Every Day

Ski hard, play hard – that’s the unofficial motto of Whistler Pride. After you’ve put in a day on the mountain, it’s all about relaxing and imbibing at après sessions throughout the week. No need to change out of your ski gear – just check your schedule and head to the venue of the day (like the Cabin at the Aava Whistler hotel, Milestones, and the Whistler Conference Centre). Meet up with old friends, make new ones, and swap stories of the day’s adventures.

Lots of Laughs

Whistler Pride and Ski Festival is known for bringing in some big names in comedy (remember when Margaret Cho came to town at last year’s festival?) This year, it’s about quality and quantity. Four funny gals will be taking the stage at Oh Snow She Didn’t. Bianca Del Rio, Jackie Beat, Sherry Vine, and Varla Jean Merman will host an unforgettable evening that you’ll undoubtedly be talking about for the rest of the week – and possibly the rest of the year.

Party Every Day

No, really – you can party every day at the Whistler Pride and Ski Festival. Every single night of the festival, there’s something fun going on, from the Long John Party on the 25th to the Cowboy Party on the 26th to the Pool Party on the 28th… let’s just say you’re going to need some time to recover. Just remember – it only comes around once a year, so make the most of the festival.

Snowball: The Grand Finale

Whatever you do, do NOT miss Snowball at the Whistler Conference Centre. Taking place the last night of the festival, this is the main event of the fest and the best way to send off yet another awesome Whistler Pride. This year’s event featured Yinon Yahel, DJ Bret Sea, and Flava. This is the final hurrah, so go big or go home!
